Collection : ‘The Woman in You'
An evolution of the ‘ Khyber Pass ' collection recently shown to rave reviews at Milan Fashion Week this year. Innovative, fresh and distinctly Maheen.
Maheen is the Matriarch of Pakistani fashion. A consummate trendsetter and visionary, she launched her line in 1983 and continues to set standards through showings in over 21 countries. She revived the angrakha, put the spotlight on tailored shirts and capris and created the half sari. Maheen was doing fusion long before it became the flavour of the month and has been credited with singlehandedly changing the perception of fashion in Pakistan . Her haute couture line is a stylish blend of East and West, whilst continuing to retain an ethnic flavour. Her philosophy is ‘ …I like real clothes for the real woman'.
Maheen created Benazir Bhutto's signature look - the iconic green outfit with a white scarf. Other high profile clients include Jemima Khan, Ginwa Bhutto, H.R.H Princess Sarwat El-Hassan of Jordan, Princess Salimah Aga Khan.
In addition to dressing royalty, celebrities and Hollywood stars. Maheen has worked with Catherine Walker and set up an embroidery house with the award winning London based costume designer, Diane Holmes. She has worked on costumes for over 20 opera and theatre productions. She won a groundbreaking contract for the entire sets of Oliver Stone's film Alexander, then went on to do costumes for Sweeny Todd, Young Victoria, Judy Dench in Mrs. Henderson Presents and Cate Blanchet in Elizabeth: The Golden Age. She is presently working on the sets of a new film - Robin Hood with Russell Crowe.
Maheen is glamorous the way Coco Chanel and Elsa Schiaparelli were glamorous, not in a flirty baroquely feminine way but in a very confident, very individualistic way. Fashion, according to Maheen, is always about the fresh and the new. If so Maheen will always be fashionable.
