Collection : ‘Salt'
City - Karachi
An all natural white collection inspired by the salt plains of Karachi , and textured using ‘Niwar', Rizwan Beyg has created a collection with the aid of the village women from the Haripur Hazara region, offering them a valuable opportunity for economic growth and drawing attention to their lost handcrafting traditions. The entire collection is finished with hand made jewellery and the generous use of pearls to add lustre.
In 1989, when a young architect, Rizwan Beyg, forayed into fashion design, an industry was created. The first designer in Pakistan to design couture, Rizwan followed this up by many other pioneering ventures – his ‘firsts' include starting designer bridal wear ('91), designer textile prints ('94), home furnishings ('96) and creating shoes and bags to compliment collections ('98).
Rizwan's label, Limited Editions, carries bridal, prêt and couture Women's and Men's wear, as well as textile prints and incorporates an embroidery house. Rizwan experimented with and has perfected his art - be it creating a virtual renaissance of Mughal embroidery traditions, originating embellishment techniques or seamlessly assimilating skills such as corsetry into Eastern wear.
His designs have graced ramps across the globe including London , New York , Chicago , Sharjah , Jordan , Delhi , Helsinki , Prague , Bucharest , Beaulieu sur Mer, Dubai , Colombo , Sarajevo , Rome and Milan . These shows have been attended by Heads of State, celebrities and royalty. His client list includes the late Princess Diana, HRH Princess Sarvath of Jordan, the First Lady of Portugal, the Romanian Prime Minister's wife, Jemima Khan and Cherie Blair.
Rizwan is a founding member of the Pakistan Fashion Design Guild and a member of the Board of Studies at the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture in Karachi . He is also a member of the Design Cell appointed by the Prime Minister of Pakistan for AHAN – a rural development project initiated by Rizwan, who is as noted for his philanthropy as he is his talent.
Amongst the many awards and tributes Rizwan has received, he has won the Lux Style Award for Couture four times, the Nestle Style Guru Award ('04), the Indus Hall of Fame award ('07), the TV One Style Lifetime Achievement award ('07) and the Sunday “Face of the Year” couture award ('08). He was also cited by the UAE based Ahlan Masala magazines as being one of the 100 MOST influential Asians of 2008.
